Swinging Saturdays #52: Tour de France

Swinging saturdays is a musical meme hosted by Ice Cold Passion, to share our passion for music. The goal is to make a top 5 (or Top 10) for whatever genre or artist you like or get creative and share a theme based music top 5. For example a bookish soundtrack, funny songs, song to listen to on a rainy day top 5.

The second week of the Tour de France is almost over, one week to go and then we will know how is wearing the yellow jersey. Here is my in impression of the Tour de France in music.

1. Kensington ~ War

The Tour started off in my little country! In the middle of the Netherlands, in the city Utrecht. Therefore we are going to start off with a band that calls Utrecht their home town, Kensington. This time no live performance but the video, which is also about sports, with Dutch star athletes like: Epke Zonderland, Bart Deurloo & Casimir Schmidt

2. Racoon ~ No Mercy

The second stage ended in Zeeland, ofcourse I could have chosen the first band from Zeeland that comes to mind, which is Bløf, but after a little search I came across Racoon. And the song No Mercy came to mind, which was perfect for this stage because the weather was without mercy for the riders.

3. Triggerfinger ~ I Follow Rivers

The third stage took us through Belgium, the start was in Antwerp, Triggerfinger is from Antwerp. And I present to you one of the greatest covers ever. I still can't watch this enough.

4. Mumford and Sons ~ Roll Away Your Stone

There couldn't be a more fitting song for this stage as it took us across cobble stone roads.

5. Peter Fox ~ Haus Am See

The 5th stage was a german party in the end, the Yellow jersey went to Tony Martin, the stage was won by André Greipel. So a German song it is.

6. Stromae ~ Tous les mêmes

How can I not include a French song while writing about the Tour de France? Right you can't. Stromae is one of those extraordinary artist, and this video really shows his talent.

7. Queen ~ Bicycle race

I don't think I have to say anything.

8. Nightwish ~ Over The Hills And Faraway

Hills, we also had a stage with hills, going over the hills and faraway.

9. Biffy Clyro ~ Mountains

The Pyrenees to be exact, that is were we have been for the last two days.

10. AC/DC ~ Highway To Hell

We are entering the third and final week, with still the Alps ahead, tired after two weeks of biking, I can imagine that the last stage can into the highway to hell.


I hope you enjoyed my take on the Tour de France in music. I had a lot of fun putting together this top 10 and I love watching the Tour de France, it is one of the most exciting bicycle races (as Freddy would call it) of all.
