Swinging Saturdays #57: Black Day In France

Swinging saturdays is a musical meme hosted by Ice Cold Passion, to share our passion for music. The goal is to make a top 5 (or Top 10) for whatever genre or artist you like or get creative and share a theme based music top 5. For example a bookish soundtrack, funny songs, song to listen to on a rainy day top 5.

Today I woke up to messages about what happened in Paris last night. The horrors that have taken place at various events in Paris, in restaurants, the soccer match, and in a theatre where a band was playing. A band I might add that I like very much. All those innocent people enjoying MUSIC, becoming a victim of terrorists. This is something that pisses me off, the most.

And therefore I join the France newspapers, also in black on this Swinging Mourning Saturdays. My condolences to all who have lost a dear one last night. I want to share with you some words that were just posted by the Effenaar (a concert hall here in the Netherlands), which were very touching and also are the message I want to send out to all of you today:

" Wij blijven muziek brengen voor iedereen. Muziek is een belangrijke vorm van vrijheid. Het maakt ons tot wie we zijn. En dat laten we ons niet afnemen.

Translation:
"We will keep bringing everybody music. Music is the most important form of freedom. It makes us who we are. Nobody can take that from us."

The Effenaar is also the event organisor behind Speedfest, where the Eagles Of Death Metal (the band that was playing at the Bataclan concert hall) are  part of the line up.

Today, no talking about the songs I selected or about the bands that have produced them, today I bring you just music. May it lessen the pain and frustrations of the current events.

1. AC/DC ~ Back In Black

2. Biffy Clyro ~ Black Chandelier

3. Flogging Molly ~ Black Friday Rule

4. Blue October ~ Black Orchid

5. Muse ~ Supermassive Black Hole

6. Placebo ~ Black Market Blood

7. My Chemical Romance ~ Welcome To The Black Parade

8. Sinéad O'Connor ~ Black Boys On Mopeds

9. Metallica ~ Fade In Black

10. Ben Howard ~ Black Flies

There is ofcourse one last thing I want to say, this time to the band, Eagles Of Death Metal. I hope all the band members and crew survived this attack and I hope you keep playing your music no matter what. Music does unite. I leave you today with a full concert of Eagles Of Death Metal, just because I can.

Eagles Of Death Metal ~ Live from Lowlands
