Swinging Saturdays #65: Metal Heads

Swinging saturdays is a musical meme hosted by Ice Cold Passion, to share our passion for music. The goal is to make a top 5 (or Top 10) for whatever genre or artist you like or get creative and share a theme based music top 5. For example a bookish soundtrack, funny songs, song to listen to on a rainy day top 5.

This afternoon I am heading off to Enschede for Attitudefest which is an event organised by the alternative clothing-webshop Attitude Holland. I am pretty excited about it if you still want to come and join us, there are still tickets at the door for € 10,-

This is going to be an alternative party and I am very curious to all the beautiful people, the music, the workshops and everything else you can see/do at this event. Now, what better way to honour this event then with a metal top 10?

Metal is a genre I do not listen very often, so there is a lot of nostalgic songs for me in here. All of these bands have been around since my high school days. I was a bit astonished by myself for putting a top 10 together with even 10 different bands!  So I do have a bit of knowledge of this genre afterall! I hope you enjoy it, let me know who your favorites are.

1. Slipknot ~ Vermillion Part 2

I could have chosen the more popular songs lik Wait And Bleed or Duality, which are far more popular that Vermillion Part 2, (Spotify agrees). This song just shows a different side to the band. It is still eerie and dark, but also very beautiful.

2. Papa Roach ~ Last Resort

Awesome right?CUT MY LIfE IN TO PIECES... Great for screaming along. The experts whispered that this isn't actually called metal, but Punk. Though I know some of the songs do boarder on metal, so that is why Papa Roach is here.

3. Disturbed ~ Down With The Sickness

Out of one of my favorite movies of all time Queen Of The Damned, came this amazing song.

4. Cradle Of Filth ~ Her Ghost In The Fog

This is the heavy shit, I used to listen to with my sister, I think she was a bigger fan than me at the time. To me this kind of is a guilty pleasure, because honestely I still love this song.

5. Rammstein ~ Seemann

I used to have a German teacher in high school who was a big fan of Rammstein, and we were aloud to listen to it in class which was awesome. This one stuck to me like glue and even now is one of my favourites.

6. System Of A Down ~ Toxicity

Of my favorit SOAD album, ofcourse named after this song. I can listen to it over and over again, and it never bores me.

7. Marilyn Manson ~ This Is The New Shit

Ah, this must be the most controversial of artists in this list. I cannot deny that is music is deliciously good.

8. Volbeat ~ Sad Man's Tongue

Great Johnny Cash cover.

9. Korn ~ Thoughtless

I could have picked Forsaken, Freak On A Leash, or Got The Life, but non of these had as much impact on me as Thoughtless. The brilliant cover Amy Lee of Evanescence did of this song made it even better. The lyrics dark as it is still speaks volumes.

10. Metallica ~ The Unforgiven part 1

No lovelies, I haven't forgotten the greatest metal band of all time. Who doesn't know Nothing Else Matters by heart? And even Enter Sandman and One can be heard on the radio on occasion. The Unforgiven part 1 is the song that speaks to me the most out of the 3 parts it consists of.

Who are your favorite metal bands?
